, performance lecture, cloth, chalk, paint, string, wooden clothespins, trees, 28:49, 2019. (performance still)

feat.

As artist-in-residence at D’CLINIC in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, friedman led a local theatre group in a series of workshops and devising activities. The work culminated in a lecture performance on psychic detachment from social constructs. As they lectured, the performers used delayed synchronicity choreography. Peppering the lecture were monologues inspired by the stories theatre group members shared about their own disappointments from attachments to capitalism, gender roles, and other constructs related to ethnicity, beauty and authority. “feat.” alludes to shorthand for “featuring,” as in short guest appearance or supporting contributor. In outlining on how to detach, the lecture explained that one will always be a guest to one’s attachments to social constructs.

Some things in the monologues: a ThetaHealing grifter, an unconsented speculative nude, searching for a neighborhood horse on Google Street View, and more.
